As we approach the debt ceiling deadline, once again America is witnessing the attempt of a few men and women to use coersion to get their way. The Republican Party lost the election and they lost the vote in Congress when Obamacare was passed.

It is really hard to understand what the House Members of the Republican Party expect to gain. Whatever myopic reasons they may have, America looses. We are becoming a laughing stock of the world. The world is watching what was once a great shining example of a republic and a democracy. Our government has become dysfunctional due to the obstructionist extremists.

This is the Last Hurrah, of the GOP, the Grand Old and I do mean really old white man’s party. As time goes by, demographics are against them, and their reaction to their future demise is to bring the country down with them. This is but a last ditch attempt to maintain a failed health care system.

What is really hard to understand is why, why do they seem to relish the idea that people suffer as a result of illness and disease? They are on the wrong side of history. We are the last western nation still without health care for all. They deny that having health is a right, a human right. Health insurance should not be only for those who are priviledged to have a lot of money or who have good health. To paraphrase Winston Churchill, we should treat disease like we do a fire in the neighborhood, when the fire brigade is sent out to put out the fire. No matter if you be rich or poor everyone should have the right to health.

Have they no shame! The credit worthiness of the dollar is on the line. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Well, they’ve tried this tactic before and the American people understood and repudiated them at the polls.

The actions of the right wing of the House of Representatives is nothing short of dictatorial and insane. They don’t seem to get it, they lost the election.

The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will become part of our safety net. We have a social democracy with Social Security and Medicare protecting the elderly and now we have a law which will protect prospective patients from getting sick without any insurance to protect their family or themselves from a health or financial disaster.

Let us hope that sanity and reason will win out and that government will not close down.
