FANTASY FOOTBALL 2016

Here we are at the start of another fantasy football year. It could not have come at a better time. With all of the craziness in politics we still have football to see us through.

With your skill in drafting it does not hurt to have some luck as well. This analysis is for standard leagues.

It helps in drafting to put your prospective players in tiers, the top rated and the next in level of excellence to the worst of the rest. It often makes sense to leave players from the worst teams at the bottom of your list. This years choices for the worst teams in the league are the 49ers, the Browns and the Ravens. In choosing quarterbacks one should realize that quarterbacks need not be chosen in the first round. If you are in a league where you have keepers, however, it is wise to note if any of the players are keepers. If so be wary of your competitors who then choose a quarterback in the first round. because you might get be forced to draft a quarterback fairly early in the draft. This might leave you with no choice but to pick a quarterback earlier than you would have wanted to. Keep a list of quarterbacks that you rate by excellence and cross of the names who are drafted so that you know who is left to draft.

Quarterback ratings: At the top of the list are Aaron Rogers, and Cam Newton.

The next tier should include the following players: Brees, Andrew Luck, Carson Palmer, Russell Wilson and Ben Rothlisberg.

A lower tier would include: Blake Bortles, Tom Brady, Philip Rivers, and Eli Manning.

The bottom tier would include: Derek Carr who might perform at a high enough level to warrant a higher ranking and Matt Ryan who is an excellent quarterback but who might not have enough of a supporting cast to warrant a higher ranking. Others who would be good enough for a backup role as your second quarterback would be Andy Dalton, Ryan Tannehill, Marcus Mariota,  Jameis Winston, Jay Cutler, Kirk Cousins, Tyrod Taylor, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Brock Ostweiller and Dak Prescott.

Running backs: Todd Gurley, David Johnson and Adrian Peterson are definite first rounders and deserve to be in the top tier.

The almost great list of running backs would include: Le’Veon Bell, Devonta Freeman, Lamar Miller, Eddie Lacy, Doug Martin, Ezekial Elliott with Jamaal Charles there as well but with a question mark based upon whether he will be ready to play.

The best of the rest include: LeSean McCoy, Latavius Murray, C.J. Anderson, Mark Ingram, and Thomas Rawls.

Others to draft who should be good enough to start are Jeremy Langford, Rashard Jennings, Chris Ivory, Jonathan Stewart, Jeremy Hill, Matt Jones and Matt Forte.

If you want to gamble draft Carlos Hyde, Ryan Mathews, Ameer Abdullah, Frank Gore, Terrence West, and Melvin Gordon.

Wide Receivers: This is really a wide receiver league now and one needs to have depth on your team regarding this position. The top tier includes: Antonio Brown, Odell Beckham , Julio Jones, A.J. Green, DeAndre Hopkins, Dez Bryant and Allen Robinson.

Just below that tier are the following players: Jordy Nelson, Sammy Watkins, Brandon Marshall, Brandon Cooks, Amari Cooper, Mike Evans, Keenan Allen and Alshon Jeffery.

Another Great group of receivers are: DeMaryius Thomas, Randall Cobb, Kelvin Benjamin and T.Y. Hilton.

You can not go wrong with: Julian Edelman, Jarvis Landry, Jeremy Maclin, Doug Baldwin, Michael Floyd, Larry Fitzgerald and Emmanuel Sanders.

Tight Ends. There are three top tight ends, Gronkowski, Jordan Reed and Greg Olson.

It is hard to distinguish between the best of the rest with Travis Kulce, Delanie Walker, Gary Barnidge, and Coby Fleener leading the pack.

Enjoy the year, and let every team be successful!
